Craig Ranch
- February 18th, 2010
I had the pleasure of designing one of the first homes in the Craig Ranch development, based upon the “not so big” house concept made popular by the published Architect, Sarah Susanka. When most people hear of this concept, they immediately assume we are talking about tiny houses. In fact, nothing could be further from the truth as this Craig Ranch home illustrates.
The arrangement of space in the home is generous, yet still within human scale. The spaces interact to give the home more utility, and a sense of warmth and comfort that all homes should provide. Mrs. Susanka’s motto is “build better, not just bigger”.
Anyone looking to build a custom home in Craig Ranch, or elsewhere owes it to themselves to look in to the thought behind the “not so big house” concept. Perhaps useless, cold, unused formal spaces will finally go by the wayside, and homes can be created to reflect and cater to the way a modern family actually lives.
I was happy to see photographs of this Craig Ranch home showing up in the sales literature, website, and on a large mural in the Craig Ranch new home sales center.
